Recalls 1,835 Electric Motorcycles Over Defective Motorcycle Brake Shoes

FW MOTO Inc. announced a voluntary recall of about 1,835 electric motorcycles in the U.S. due to defective Motorcycle Brake Shoes failing federal safety standards, posing crash and injury risks, the company said Tuesday.
The recall includes 500 units of the 2024 FW MOTO Fly-10 and 1,335 units of the 2022-2024 Fly E-Bike Fly-10, manufactured between July 2022 and October 2024. Sales of affected units stopped in November 2025.
NHTSA tests showed the faulty Motorcycle Brake Shoes violate FMVSS 122. At 62 km/h, affected bikes needed an average 25.54-meter stopping distance—exceeding the 23.03-meter limit. They also failed wet brake tests, reaching only 50.38% of dry braking deceleration (below the 60% requirement).
A FW MOTO spokesperson said the defective brake shoes could extend stopping distances and cause loss of control, though no related injuries have been reported. Owners are urged to stop using affected vehicles until repairs.
The brake shoes, made by two Chinese suppliers, have friction material lacking enough copper for consistent performance. FW MOTO will offer free replacements with improved brake shoes or full vehicle repurchase.
Owner notifications will be mailed by March 15, 2026, guiding them to authorized dealers for free service. Owners can check recall status via FW MOTO’s website (by VIN) or its hotline: 1-800-FWMOTO-1.
This recall underscores the importance of high-quality Motorcycle Brake Shoes. Experts advise regular inspection and replacement every 10,000-30,000 kilometers to maintain safety.
